This 1989 Porsche 928 S4 is finished in black over black and powered by a 5.0L V8 paired with a 5-speed manual transaxle and limited-slip differential. The car spent its early life in Illinois before moving to Virginia with its second owner, where it stayed from 1993-2015. The seller purchased it in 2016 and has since added 6k miles as well as installing a new timing belt, water pump, and air conditioning compressor. The intake system was also overhauled, bodywork from a previous repair was corrected, and a Porsche Classic retrofit head unit with navigation was installed. This S4 shows 82k miles and is offered with a factory tool kit, removed components, recent records, a Carfax report, and a clean Illinois title in the sellers name.
This coupe is finished in Black (L700), and the seller corrected previous repairs from a 2003 incident that damaged the right front fender and bumper. The roof was repainted and the sunroof seal replaced during the bodywork. Remaining blemishes include scrapes and a crack on the chin spoiler as well as chips and touch-ups as detailed in the gallery below.
The S4 model was introduced in late 1986 for the 1987 model year and featured revised styling, suspension upgrades, and larger brakes. Disc-style 16 alloy wheels wheels wear mixed Toyo Proxes tires. The original muffler is included in the sale, but has been removed in lieu of a rear muffler bypass exhaust.
The cabin is trimmed in black draped leather over power seats, which feature heating and adjustable lumbar support. Matching leather kick panels from Classic 9 have been added along with a Bluetooth-capable Porsche Classic head unit with navigation. The removed original components are included.
The air conditioning compressor has been replaced and the system blows cold according to the seller. Approximately 82k miles are shown on the odometer, with 6k added by the seller over two years of driving. Cracking is shown on the dash top, between the defrost vents, and on an outer bolster of the drivers seat.
The rear cargo area houses a collapsible spare, air compressor, and jack below the floor as well as a factory tool kit behind the rear-most interior panel. The seller notes visible repairs on the left rear seatback vinyl.
A partial readout of options on the build sticker above is as follows:
139/340 Heated seats
220 Locking Differential
302 Type designated on rear
474 Boge shock absorbers
481 Manual Transmission

570 Rear A/C

The 5.0L DOHC V8 is linked to the rear-mounted 5-speed manual transaxle and limited-slip differential with a torque tube, and output was quoted at 316 horsepower when new. The intake system was overhauled during the sellers ownership, and new fuel injector rails, spark plug tubes, and valve cover gaskets were installed. Service in June 2018 included replacement of the timing belt and water pump.
A collection of lift shots can be seen in the gallery below, and the rear muffler bypass is pictured above. The seller notes that the engine undertray is missing. Brakes were serviced in December 2016.
The recent Carfax report lists no accidents, but notes damage to the right front in 2003. Owners in Illinois, Virginia, New York, and Pennsylvania are recorded between 1992-present. Videos showing an engine start and driving footage can be seen below.
